Medical Records(LPN)

What you will do:

The primary responsibility is to maintain resident medical records and health information systems in accordance with current federal and state guidelines and in accordance with our facility’s established privacy policies and procedures.

  • File information such as nurses’ notes, resident assessments, progress notes, laboratory reports, x-ray results, correspondence, etc., into resident charts.
  • Retrieve resident records (manually/electronically)
  • Ensure resident records are properly completed, assembled, coded, signed, indexed, etc.
  • Demonstrates understanding of proper requirements for thinning medical records.
  • Ensures HIPAA privacy and security regulations are followed.
  • Retrieves information from records as authorized/required for insurance companies, Medicare, Medicaid, VA, etc. in accordance with current Privacy Rules.
  • Maintains resident charts/records and identify proper retention and storage arrangements.
  • Data entry of computerized physicians’ orders including medication and treatment orders
  • Working in collaboration with charge nurses for month end physician order recap review and revision.
  • Supervises care provided by the Nursing Assistants assigned to the unit, providing intervention, education, and assignment adjustments
  • Prepares and administers medication and treatments
  • Consults with physicians
  • Receives and records orders as required
  • Manages facility’s medical supplies
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing and/or Administrator.

Qualifications

  • A working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, legal aspects of health information, coding, indexing, including knowledge of HIPAA Privacy Act requirements related to medical records management
  • Must have experience in Medical Records for a long-term care facility (nursing home)Evaluates the physical, emotional, and social needs of the residents. Reviews residents care plans, assures plans are followed and documents resident medical records
  • Current Louisiana Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license
  • Current/active CPR certification preferred
